SOME of the entrants in the Robin Hood Festival of Running have been given tips from a top sport psychologist.

A team representing Treetops Hospice is running on Sunday to raise money for its Ripple Appeal.

They have been given tips by Dr Antoinette Minniti, Principal Lecturer of Sport Psychology at Nottingham Trent University.

She made a presentation at the hospice in Risley which included key aspects of sport psychology and the importance of mental preparation.

The runners were advised to focus on controllable factors to ensure they maximise their energy on the day.

Team member Simon Davey said: "I have been running for 25 years but still found some interesting pointers and how to improve my mental attitude towards training."

Treetops Hospice is still recruiting runners to raise money for a new care centre as part of its appeal.
