Forest: The Reds finished third behind Liverpool and Man United that season. But, due to the European ban, they missed out.

A youthful Forest side had a tonic 4-0 win at Halifax in the third round of the FA Cup. Pearce, Wilson, Plummer and sub Wilkinson got the goals. They followed up by pipping Orient 2-1 away in the next round through Plummer and Glover. Steve Chettle and Terry Wilson became first-team regulars along with Crosby and Parker.

Notts County: The Magpies beat Northampton 3-1 in Division Three. Gary Lund and Adrian Thorpe (2) were the men who hit the target.

Mansfield Town: The Stags, plying their trade in Division Three, lost 3-1 at Chesterfield and 2-1 at Southend. Ryan and Cassells got the goals.
