Mansfield's new boy Tyrone Thompson is out to return favour to boss Holdsworth
MANSFIELD Town new boy Tyrone Thompson is determined to repay David Holdsworth for helping him out early in his career.
The 28-year-old midfielder was a youngster coming through the ranks at Sheffield United when the Stags boss was a senior pro at Bramall Lane.

Holdsworth took Thompson under his wing, offering useful advice that helped the Sheffield-born player progress through to first team level.
And though he only made one senior appearance for the Blades, Thompson has gone on to enjoy successful spells with Scarborough, Halifax, Crawley and Torquay.
He has not forgotten what Holdsworth did for him and hopes to return the favour after agreeing a one-year deal.
"I have known David for a long time since my Sheffield United days and I used to look up to him as a player," said Thompson.
"He used to look out for the younger lads when he could and pass on his experience, which was very good of him.
"That's why when I knew he was interested in signing me for Mansfield I was keen to join. The connection was there and I wanted to play for him.
"I have lived down in the south west while at Torquay and this gives me the chance to play closer to home.
"I also know that if the right squad is put together, this club has a chance of getting back in the Football League."
Thompson has already experienced the joy of winning promotion from the Blue Square Bet Premier while at Torquay.
He was part of the Gulls' squad – along with ex-Stag Blair Sturrock – that beat Cambridge United 2-0 at Wembley at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.
Thompson said: "I know we have the right type of pedigree to do well.
"I have played against a lot of them, including Steve Foster, Kevin Sandwith and Matt Somner, so I know there is plenty of ability and experience there."
Meanwhile, midfielder Kyle Nix has returned to Mansfield after his trial with Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam.
He is set to go straight into the squad for today's friendly against Tranmere Rovers as Steven Istead and Matt Somner are battling knocks.
Boss David Holdsworth said: "It doesn't look as if they are going to follow up their interest, but we're pleased to have him back,"
Magno Vieira, who was a Stags target, has joined Fleetwood Town.
