VERSATILE defender Mark Preece has penned a one-year deal with Mansfield Town.

The 23 year old, who has made over 150 appearances for former club Forest Green Rovers, turned down contract offers from other Blue Square Premier Bet clubs to join the Stags.

He said: "Mansfield is a big club and I want to be with a club at the top end of the league this year.

The defender is now available for Saturday's friendly match at home to Sheffield United.

Manager David Holdsworth said: "Mark is a welcome addition to our squad. He is a hungry young man who wishes to continue his progression here and I look forward to working with him intensely."
