MANSFIELD Town chairman John Radford hopes giving his Aston Martin to manager Paul Cox means one thing – he won't be leaving anytime soon.

Radford had already told Cox he would be giving him a new car as a present.

But even the Stags boss was shocked when he was told at half-time of the game against Barrow that it was the chairman's own supercar that was waiting for him in the car park – also with new personalised number plate, MT51 COX.

Mansfield were already 5-1 up at that point and romped to an 8-1 victory in the end, with Matt Green grabbing a hat-trick and Lee Stevenson a brace at the One Call Stadium on Saturday.

It was a seventh Blue Square Bet Premier win in their last nine games and the Stags are sixth, three points off the play-offs with up to three games in hand on some rivals ahead of travelling to promotion rivals Newport tomorrow night.

And their Welsh opponents sit fifth, meaning victory for Mansfield tomorrow will lift them into the play-offs due to their superior goal difference.

With Cox again looking like leading his side into the play-offs, and in with a shout of the title, a smiling chairman Radford said: "I promised Paul a new car and, at 5-1 up, I delivered it. It was my Aston Martin so I think it stops him going to any other club! He is not going to go anywhere else now.

"He needed a better car than he was driving so I gave him mine. I think he liked it.

"I am delighted with the way it is coming together and what the boys are doing. It is about keeping that continuity there.

"We are now starting to eke out the results and are moving up the league and that is what we have to continue doing."
