A NOTTS man who has dedicated 12 years to helping homeless people has been nominated for a Reach Out award.

When Tony Lee offered to help at the Hall Homeless Support project he was meant to be staying for a couple of weeks.

But now, 12 years on, the pensioner still drops in every week to help staff.

The Hall Homeless Support Project, based in Woodhouse Road, Mansfield, was launched in 1996 to offer help to people aged between 16 and 25 who are living on the streets in and around Mansfield.

Gill Footitt, manager of the project, nominated Mr Lee for the award in the volunteer category.

"Tony is one of four pensioners who come and help out" said Gill.

"Tony is such a lovely person and has been an amazing help here."
