Man denies aiming gun at Bulwell house
A MAN accused of pointing a loaded gun at a family home said he was "savaged" by a police dog when he was arrested.
Declan Madigan denies any involvement in the firearms incident in Irwin Drive, Bulwell, on May 18.
He was arrested shortly before midnight in nearby Lodgewood Close after getting out of a Citroen Zara Picasso with three other men, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
A gun loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was later found close to where the car stopped, jurors have heard.
PC Mark Johnson told the court yesterday how he used his police dog, Jet, to stop Madigan after he allegedly began walking away, ignoring instructions to stop.
In interviews after his arrest, Madigan told detectives: "I've got out of the passenger side, I've walked around the car, and the dog's bit me.
"I never tried to run from no one. I never made off nowhere. I've done nothing wrong.
"He's let the dog savage me. If I hadn't restrained the dog he wouldn't have got the dog off me."
Madigan said he grabbed the dog's jaw to try to pull it away from him.
PC Johnson said he saw Madigan get out of the back seat of the car, but the 22-year-old claims he was sitting in the front seat.
The car, a company vehicle belonging to another man, was fitted with a tracking device, which records its location every five minutes.
Police were able to trace its movements from the Royal Oak pub in Bulwell to Lodgewood Close, where its four occupants were arrested.
Prosecutors allege that Madigan, accompanied three other men, had gone to the house in Irwin drive at around 11.20pm and knocked on the door, before pointing the gun at its occupants.
The car's tracking device showed that it was parked in Cernan Court at the time of the incident – a street that is linked to Irwin Drive by a subway.
The court was told the family living at the house had been the victims of a series of incidents after a dispute with another man. Madigan denies any knowledge of or involvement in the dispute.
He also told police he knew nothing about the gun that was found and was in the car after being offered a lift home from the pub.
"I haven't gone to no house and I haven't touched no gun," he said.
Madigan, of Faulconbridge Close, Bulwell, denies possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possessing a prohibited firearm and possessing ammunition.
James Savage, 22, of Abercarn Close, Bulwell, was found not guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possessing a prohibited firearm, on the direction of the judge.
