RAY Trew became the owner of Notts County two years ago today, and the club's assistant manager Carl Muggleton has paid tribute to the huge progress he has inspired at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies were £7m in debt, facing a winding-up petition in the High Court over unpaid tax and on the brink of administration, following the mismanagement of former owners Munto Finance, when Trew took over on February 11, 2010.

He immediately paid their tax bill to satisfy HM Revenue & Customs, chose not to plunge the club into administration and Notts went on to win the League Two title in May 2010.

The Magpies are now stable financially and in 11th place in League One, with Trew's ambition to ultimately lead the club into the Championship.

Muggleton has been at Meadow Lane throughout Trew's ownership and he said: "The club has changed so much in the last two years. Ray is taking it in the right direction and hopefully we can do that with him.

"It was a crazy time when he stepped in because it was on the back of Munto.

"Everybody was talking about administration, but Ray came in and worked very hard, with Jim (chief executive Jim Rodwell) to prevent that.

"The club is looking far healthier now than what it was when Ray came in and saved it, that's for sure. It's all down to him.

"We wouldn't be where we are today if he'd put the club into administration."

The Magpies still have a chance of challenging for promotion into the Championship – and even fulfilling Trew's vision – this season because they are only eight points adrift of the play-offs with 18 games left.

Muggleton is not getting carried away, but said: "You always want to be up there. You want to be as high up the table as possible.

"We've always looked up to where we could be and what we are striving towards.

"There has been a huge progression. We're mid-table at the moment, looking forward, looking up.

"We're going to keep working hard and trying to improve. That's all we can do."

    “Hi ya Jillycarol, Thak you for your enquiry and for your posts which helped me win my bet. I took a tenner each off 22 Forest fans 8 direby fans and 2 pies which made me £320 ( a hedgehog) in gambling terms! Thankyou guys. I'll be having another bet that notts will attract a crowd of over 8000 in one of their remaining games but they'll have to win a few more before the fans show any faith in them. Enjoying the banter by the way!”

    “Stuck In The Middle...hehehehehe, nice one, Jilly.

    PS there are just as many pigeons on the Marienplatz as on Slab Square. But funnily enough, unlike Nottingham there are no lions in front of the Council House in Munich, even though the lion is one of Bavaria's national emblems!
    Anyway, you seem quite knowledgable about Munich. Were you there back in 1979?”

    “Ay up Jilly;

    Considering Forest's goalscoring problems, you could have done worse than sign the boy Montano on loan. Instead, you are left singing 'If I had a hammer.....'”
