This Is Live: The Establishment
This Is Live is our online video showcase of the best of the city's music talent. This week it's the turn of former Forest star John Burns and his band The Establishment.
The Establishment were formed three years ago by former Nottingham Forest midfielder John Burns and drummer, Steven Landon, after the pair met at Zebra Music in Ilkeston where Steven worked.
Buoyed up to a quintet, they built a rehearsal studio where they worked on their debut four-track EP, Last One Home, released last July. A debut album will be out by the end of the year.
These guys know how to self-promote - appearing on BBC Radio 5 Live, performing at half-time on the pitch at a Forest game and playing regularly at Nottingham's music venues such as The Running Horse and the Southbank Bar.
Watch them chatting to This Is Live's Zoe Kirk and performing their track, Not Funny, live at Stealth.
And you are?
John Burns (guitar, vocals), Neil Jacks (bass, vocals), Stuart Landon (guitar, vocals), Stephen Hobster (vocals), Steven Landon (drums, vocals).
History?
The band got together in March 2006 and we played our first gig together at The Falcon in Canning Circus.
What's with the band name?
I (John) always said that if I ever started a band then I would call it The Establishment. I put it to Steven Landon and Stephen Hobster who I started the band with and they really liked it and it's stuck ever since then.
Describe your influences.
They range from The Beatles, Stone Roses, Cast, The Coral, Oasis, The Fratellis to Tom Petty.
What are the day jobs?
John Burns - mortgage adviser; Stuart - electrician; Neil - engineer; Stephen - joiner; James - senior hire technician.
Claims to fame?
Stuart appeared in Heartbeat twice, the second time alongside Gary Barlow. James met Peter Kay and Norman Wisdom through work and his auntie was Maggie in Emmerdale. Stephen (Hobbo) nearly ate four Jacob's crackers in a minute.
Which other Notts bands do you rate?
The Limits.
