Letter: A Memory
A nostalgic memory came to mind
When Nottingham's buses were all of a kind
Travelling to and fro in cream and dark green
The smartest transport ever seen.
Corporation green the colour was know
Staff wore uniforms in matching one
Peak hats were attired on every head
A fashionable accessory it had to be said
Conductors gave change with many a fare
A ticket then received and held with care
Inspectors employed to travel each bus
Checking all tickets with minimum fuss
During the war ladies arrived upon the scene
To work on the buses they were more than keen
They wore the uniform with pride
As folk enjoyed a comfortable ride
Many years later it became all change
More buses required, new routes to arrange
All colours of the rainbow appeared on view
Red, pink, lilac, yellow and blue
Driver now sits behind a tall screen
Instead of conductor an automatic machine
A nostalgic memory of those buses in green
Once the smartest transport ever seen.
