Letter: Free circus animals
I wholeheartedly agree with Margaret Pawson when she calls for a boycott of the Great British Circus (Post, Feb 27th). There is absolutely nothing 'great' about this circus that continues to exploit wild animals.
Touring circuses may cover thousands of miles a year, with animals being confined for hours in temporary accommodation. In such conditions, it is impossible to provide them with the facilities they need.
Animal circuses are sometimes hailed as a part of our cultural heritage and yet, in their current form, they only date from the 19th century. The Green Party are calling on the government to ban the use of animals in circuses.
