NOTTINGHAM Leander finished ninth in the final of the National Swimming League Cup final in Sheffield.

Just making the ten-team final was a major achievement for the club and the first time they had reached it in the competition's 40-year history.

Leander was also the first Notts club to make the elite showcase at Ponds Forge since Radford SC more than two decades before.

This time, Leander's team of swimmers from 11-year-olds to seniors came ninth on 172 points. Plymouth Leander won it with 400 points.

The Nottingham club did boast one winner in Georgia Hohmann who took gold in the under-15 girls 100m backstroke.

Helena Thornton claimed a bronze in the women's 200m individual medley while Andrew Mayor also finished third in the men's 100m butterfly.

Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington, suffered a stomach bug the night before and had to pull out.
