ONLY a few matches managed to escape the rain last weekend in the Mansfield and District League.

In Division Three, rain prevented any play at Killamarsh and Kirkby Portland, which ended Norton Oakes' hopes of promotion, handing the runners-up spot to Killamarsh.

At the bottom, Sherwood's win over Sheffield Transport lifted them out of the relegation zone and left Newstead Abbey & Village II in the drop zone.

Division Four saw the bottom four teams playing each other, and wins for Cuckney over Langwith and the ten points Frecheville Community gained over Swanwick in a rain-affected match left Langwith at the bottom and Newstead Abbey & Village III in the second relegation place.

Section 3: Sheffield Transport (2) 136-6 (P Baxter 37) lost to Sherwood II (15) 139 -3 (G Miller 66*, W Parker 50*) by 7 wickets.

Section 4: Swanwick Hall (6) 77 drew with Frecheville Community II (10) 14- 0 Rain Stopped Play; Langwith (0) 22 (N Rose 4-10, R Bostock 3-7) lost to CUCKNEY II (20) 24-0 by 10 wickets.

Section 6: Edwinstowe II (18) 158-9 (S Beard 86*, P Radford 3-31) beat Nomads II (6) 153 (T Allsopp 34, J Poyser 34, S Beard 3-12) by 5 runs; Waleswood Greencore (2) 90-8 (Prem Jerath 33, P Howett 3-3) lost to Holmewood (15) 91-5 (D Gray 29, K Tompkins 3-45) by 5 wickets.
