KEYWORTH United Community Football Club has been awarded £514,460 from the Football Foundation for a new clubhouse.

The new building will have six team changing rooms with toilets and showers, and two changing rooms for officials.

There will also be a large club room and kitchen.

Club president Allan Cook said: "This is fantastic news for the football club and the whole community of Keyworth. "Not only will it kick start our football development plan, which will see us running more teams, it will provide a new facility for people of Keyworth to use.

"We are extremely grateful to the Football Foundation and all our funding partners, for helping turn our dream into reality."

Keyworth United Community Football Club celebrated its centenary in 2004.

“Presumably this is to encourage home grown footballers. Why not limit league teams to employ maximum two foreign players instead. All this money could then be donated to something like Dr Banado¿s to make a real difference in society.”

“Yes, but they have to charge lots of money. 70% goes on costs, 30% on 'payback'.”

“Good news, but half a million quid for a clubhouse? Seems an awful lot of building costs - you could build at least three detached houses for the same money!”
