The 24 pupils taking part were inspired by a seven-year-old pupil at the school who swam a mile last April for Comic Relief.

Now they will swim a variety of distances from two lengths to 100 lengths to raise money to renew the outdoor chess set at their school. (a great favourite at the school)

24 children from the school will be ‘diving in’ to raise cash for some new school playtime equipment. The children will swim a variety of distances from 40m (2 lengths)to a Full mile (80 lengths) with one 8 year old aiming to swim around 100 lengths in an hour.

head teacher Chris Guest said: “The children have been training for the past five weeks at our School Swimming Club, each week increasing the distance that they can swim.

“All of the children have improved their stamina to hopefully enable them to achieve their goals. A few of the children could barely swim 20m without stopping at the start of our swimming club sessions and they are now ‘going for’ 100m on the day.

“The confidence the children have gained and the team spirit that they show during their sessions is phenomenal.”
