Kevan keen to play role in Magpies' future
DAVID Kevan today said he is looking forward to playing a key role with the 'new' Notts County – after rejecting the chance to join Crewe.
Former Magpies boss Gudjon Thordarson – who he previously worked alongside at Stoke – wanted Kevan to be his assistant at Gresty Road.

But he insisted today: "After all that Ian McParland and I have been through, I can't walk out.
"The offer from Crewe was appealing, I had to consider it.
"But deep down, I knew that I would be staying because our job here is nowhere near complete.
"It's been hard – very hard – and the manager and chairman deserve a lot of credit for getting us to where we are now.
"We have made real inroads and if the takeover goes through, it will give us a genuine chance of putting Notts back on the football map.
"We are hopefully standing at the start-line for a very exciting era in the history of this club.
"If things do work out I'll be especially pleased for 'Charlie'.
"It has been a very stressful time for him but he has shown great resolve and deserves the chance to show what he can do when he has reasonable resources."
The family of Haydn Green – whose investment of more than £3.2m in 2003 preserved the future of the club – has today issued a statement.
The family is upset at speculation that Green, who died in May 2007, would have approved of the takeover bid from Munto Finance or the potential 'gifting' of the Trust's shareholding – of which he funded the purchase – to the group.
"It was the desire of Haydn Green for Notts County to operate on a cash in, cash out basis," said the statement.
"The reason for this philosophy was the significant financial sacrifice Haydn made in his lifetime, following previous financial gambles by others.
"The Estate of Haydn Green intends to protect the future of NCFC for future generations of supporters. Haydn provided a home for the club and we intend to preserve this.
"Sadly, it is impossible to say whether Haydn would have approved of any bid for the club. We can confirm that in respect of the current bid, we have had no discussions with the club, the Trust or any representative from Munto."
The estate own the long-term lease, from the City Council, for the land on which the Meadow Lane stadium is built.
They are not thought to be against the takeover, but are upset at not being consulted.

“With all respect to 56 yrs etc... you won't be around much longer. As to HG family - thanks but keep out of it. Why should you be consulted? Believe me - if this gets messed up it really will be the death knell for this club. Lets have a chance to be what we should be.”

“56 years a magpie
I did not accuse you of anything. I merely asked you to disclose what you knew as, for whatever reason, you were suggesting something as amiss without saying what.
JAH's response to questions on the Trust website clarifies HG's and his estate's position.
Clearly the club and all Notts fans owe HG a huge debt without whom the club probably would not be here now.
But its clear if the shares are gifted no money is due to HG's estate which will continue to own the head lease on the ground.
Munto are in effect getting the club for nothing but the quid pro quo is clearly the investment that has been committed over the next 5 years as a condition of the deal. The amount hasn't been made public but JAH et al seem comfortable its very significant.
We should support the deal”

“I agree with Steve. His family IS NOT HG.
If HG left a proviso saying my family must be consulted then that is a different matter.
I think you'll see on the Trust site to a HG question that Munto plan to honour HG in some form. Perhaps they plan to give the family some money.
Who knows and frankly I do not care nor is it any concern of ours.
What is of concern is the future of our club which seems to be being secured by this deal.
Something HG would surely have been proud of.
I tthink the best of the deal is that if Munto pull out before 5 years, a bank must still make up the difference of what has been invested already and the figure to be invested.
Can it get any better than that.
So for at least 5 years we should have happier times than we have had in the recent past.
Yea Gods, let's get the deal done and move FORWARD.
As for you 56 years Mr Wilford, you have already said you want the deal to succeed so let us say good night to the conspiracy theories, because quite frankly they are getting boring and irratating.
