Job cuts will cost county £3m a year
A MAJOR part of next year's budget will be redundancy payments for staff set to lose their jobs.
The council has announced that about 470 jobs will go and unions fear a significant proportion of them will be compulsory redundancies.
The council has budgeted £3m next year and a further £3m the year after to pay off staff.
The council is also planning to overhaul its "back office" functions, such as finance and IT. This could include merging its services with those of other councils.
As a result, £2m is included in next year's budget and a further £2m is in the following year's.
Some £1.5m is needed to improve council buildings to reduce the risk from fire, legionella, and asbestos.
Meanwhile, more than £1m will be put into roads to pay for maintenance of an expanding network and provide additional funds for drainage works to reduce flash floods.

“David you are talking rubbish. Even the senior Cllr's don't know what's going off because Mrs Cutts won't tell them. Trust me.”

“Why did the NEP report that the council are trying to get the 66 weeks down to 45 then.
And I have had it confirmed by a senior councillor that this IS in fact the case.”

“David, Keyworth -
You really are very short sighted. NCC will have to make redundancy payments (not the 66 weeks that you keep stating) which is set to cost £3m per year. Then in about 6 months time, it will realise it does not have enough staff to cope with service demand. NCC will then have to employ more people, without the experience of the others they have already made redundant. Which they will then have to pay to train up! Where is the common sense in that?”

“There you go again, you've been told before that nobody is going to get 66 weeks redundancy pay but you keep coming out with this myth.
You make some valied points but do yourself no favours by keep repeating a line that isn't TRUE”

“David,
Several people have now emailed you to say that nobody is going to get 66 weeks of redundancy, i think everyone who's job is at danger would appreciate it if , despite your opinions, you could just stick to the facts - and at least have the decency to listen to what people, who do know the facts, are reporting. As you seem to be constantly online, you could at least use your time constructively and do a little research before your next rant”

“If they didn't have such extravagent redundancy settlements it would not be that expensive. 66 weeks redundancy pay!
Makes MPs expenses look reasonable. And if the the previous Labour administration not caved in so easily to the unions demands that money could go on public services or save someone's job.”
