MORE than 50 organisations were today finding out more about the procurement proposals for extending Nottingham's tram line to Clifton and Chilwell (NET Phase Two).

Potential bidders for the project, including transport operators, construction contractors, tram vehicle suppliers, investment companies and specialist consultants, were at the meeting.

It is being hosted by Nottingham City Council, who recently secured more than £500m of Government funding for NET Phase Two.

An introductory address was to be given by Coun Jane Urquhart, the city council's portfolio holder for transport and area working.

Chris Deas, NET Phase Two project director, said: "We are delighted with the interest shown in the project by so many different organisations.

"It demonstrates that, even in a difficult economic climate, there is still strong interest."

The city council will soon be advertising the project throughout Europe by issuing a notice in the Official Journal of the European Journal (OJEU).

A contract for the work is expected to be awarded in 2011.
