MATCH-WINNER Ben Hutchinson was delighted to gun down Southport – and now wants to continue playing his part in adding an extra dimension to Mansfield Town.

The former Celtic and Middlesbrough forward has had a difficult time this season, finding himself out in the cold following an Achilles injury.

But, against Southport on Saturday, he started his third game in the space of a week.

The 24-year-old netted in the second minute and it proved to be enough to secure a 1-0 win.

Manager Paul Cox stated he was delighted to see Hutchinson hungry to succeed, after such a rollercoaster ride that has seen him go from local side Arnold to the Champions League and back to the Blue Square Premier in five years.

Hutchinson, who is hoping to line up against Slough in Stags' FA Cup first round replay tomorrow, told the Post: "It felt good. I am happy to be playing and more than happy for us to be winning.

"Three games in a week will benefit me. The more I play, the more consistent I will get.

"I have waited a long time, I have been patient and I hope to get a good run and stay in the team and add something that we didn't have before.

"I am never going to stop working hard to try to play. Everyone is fighting for positions so you have to make sure you do your job for the team."
