Hunt for fraudster posing as broken down driver
A CONMAN has been tricking motorists out of cash by parking up and pretending to be stranded.
Notts Police are warning people to be on the look out for the fraudster, who has been targeting good samaritans on the A1 in Notts and the M1.

Notts drivers are being warned to be on their guard.
The man first parks up and pops his bonnet, pretending to have a problem with his car.
When concerned motorists stop to ask if he needs help, he claims to have broken down or run out of petrol and asks if they can lend him money.

To gain their confidence, he offers jewellery and a card featuring his contact details as a guarantee.
The jewellery later turns out to be worthless and the contact details false.
The latest incident happened at the Retford junction of the A1 at around 11.20am on Wednesday.
A woman stopped to help the man, who is in his late 30s, around 5ft 10ins tall and with short dark hair.
He is of stocky build and Asian or of mixed race.
He was well dressed and polite and driving a silver saloon car.
But the woman did not fall for his scam and instead called the police. The man left before officers arrived.
If you have had a similar encounter or have any information about the culprit contact Notts Police on the 101 non-emergency number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

“Gareth, I appreciate your comments and let me assure you I'm no troll. My motivation, my duty if you will, is to challenge racism wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head.”

“@SlickSpoons
Seriously? Who mentioned race?
Local Lad just said "man".
Are you really so easily offended on others' behalf or are you just a very poor troll?”

“Why do people have to be so bloody horrible? Finding the worst in everyone! If she had fallen for his scam it would have been 'Oh stupid woman, who does that? It's her own fault' blah blah blah, but instead she stopped, realised he was trying it on and left. Maybe she didn't get his reg number because on realising he wasn't really in need she thought it best to get out of there and not sit in the car writing details down first!! If it was me I would just want to get out of there!”

“The woman did not fall for his scam, if she was that intelligent (rather than most likely just being tight fisted where cash is concerned) she would have taken his registration down or at least provided the make and model of his car rather than just the colour, she most likely rang the cops because she was angered by him having the audacity to ask her for money.”
