PLANS for 775 homes and a budget hotel have been submitted for green belt land in Toton.

The 41 hectare site to the west of Toton Lane and near the new tram terminus, will also include shops, and a designated employment area and a medical surgery.

A planning application has been submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council by developer Peveril Homes.

The plans had been mooted since July last year, when Broxtowe Borough Council said the site was a “preferred” one to meet housing needs between now and 2026.

However, the council chose to take it off the list of preferred sites in October last year as part of discussion on suitable locations for housing in the borough.

But Peveril Homes has now submitted plans, saying it would bring 389 new jobs and over £10 million of economic injection into the local economy.

“why here? there are plenty of opportunities in Nottingham which are ideal for development into social housing!”

“Just want to point out that Broxtowe Borough Council can reject the application. Will see if Labour and the Lib Dems, who run Broxtowe Borough Council, actually care about the greenbelt when they have to vote on the matter.”

“I love the way the local Tory MP, who I am told does not live in the constituency, has managed to convince some of the locals that she is on their side opposing green belt development.”

“D99WR, I think the council do want the Boots proposal to go somewhere.

I think our MP is guilty of doublespeek. Campaigning against this and having a go at the council, and yet supporting a government which is making it harder to protect the green belt.”

“There is a story on the BBC website about this issue and it says that the land is used by locals, yet Trev8 states that it is farmland. Who can be right on this? Or are the locals trespassing? All I know is that the land does not produce food crops at present and has not done so for many, many years. I wonder if the residents of Toton who live on the estate off Banks Road are against this development plan?”
