HUNDREDS of members of the public enjoyed watching mock trials, touring cells and seeing inside a prison van during a Criminal Justice Open Day at Nottingham Crown Court.

Visitors also took part in mock sentencing exercises and found out more about the role of jurors.

The event on Saturday included more than 30 exhibition stands from groups including Victim Support, Neighbourhood Watch and the Probation Service.

Notts police was represented strongly, with Chief Constable Julia Hodson joined by safer neighbourhood officers. Police horses and a truck from the collision investigation unit were also there.

The Galleries of Justice and National Centre for Citizenship and Law ran role plays in costume about the history of criminal justice.

Young people also enjoyed hearing local criminal tales from a storyteller.

Entry to the event was free.
