ACTORS from Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks lost for the third year running in a charity football match against AC Broxtowe.

The team lost 7-1 in the game at Meadow Lane yesterday, which raised money for Notts children's charity When You Wish Upon a Star, and Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.

Team manager Nick Pickard, who plays Tony, said he was hoping to beat AC Broxtowe. His side even refrained from going out in Nottingham the night before, as they have done in previous years.

Organiser Wanda Georgiades, from AC Broxtowe sponsors Care Fertility, said: "Even though they stayed sober, they still lost. They did try very hard.

"It was mainly female fans who went to watch. It was a bit like a Take That concert.

"They were all dressed up to the nines. You would have thought they were going to a disco rather than a football match. There was lots of screaming.

"The security staff said they had never seen people at a football match like that. They did Nottingham proud."

The actors commiserated their defeat by going out in the city centre last night.

Ms Georgiades is now beginning to count how much money has been raised for the charities.
