SUPER fast trains travelling at up to 250mph will run through the East Midlands on a new high speed rail network announced by the Government today.

Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis said that a network would run from London to Birmingham and then split with one branch running to Manchester and another running to the East Midlands and on to Leeds.

The line could use one of the existing stations at Derby, Leicester or Nottingham as a stop, or a new station could be built.

Lord Adonis said the plan would cut journey times and improve connections from the East Midlands to other parts of the country.

"This strategy is for the development of an initial core high speed network which would link London to Birmingham, Manchester, the East Midlands, Sheffield and Leeds," he said.

"This Y-shaped network of about 335 miles in total, with branches north of Birmingham running either side of the Pennines, would be capable of carrying trains at up to 250 mph."

are you sure ? i took my car on a time trial and it reached 165 mph,
    that didnt seem so fast,
especialy compared to the jap cars that were doing 171,
maybe its because of the small chidren that can easlity get onto the track ?”

“amazing, they can do all this yet they cant agree to a basic price for a basic ticket,
i would suggest that they get the ticket price sorted first then try for the pie in the sky ,
ie you dont jump on a bus and the driver goes
"ew , you got on before 7.30 therefore its a different ball game than if you got on at 7.33.
did you want a return ? did you want a town saver ?
did you ask for a save the world i wanna get off special ?
    etc etc,,,,,,
    things havent changed,”

“I find the whole idea of this fast train just shocking.

Has anybody thought about the health and safety aspect of this fast train. If it was to crash we would be lucky to have any survivors.”

“M , Gedling, this is far faster than the Japanese Bullet Train, which only reaches about 200mph. I've been on several Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) and let me tell you, they are immense. Smooth as anything and faster than you'd believe. We need these now, not in 20 years, but unfortunately that's when we're going to get them.

Incidentally the French TGV can do over 300mph. When we finally get this it'll be outdated already...”
