A 26-YEAR-OLD has become a Notts hospital's first ever heart transplant patient to give birth to a healthy baby.

Rebecca Radford gave birth to baby Logan at King's Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield less than two years after getting a new heart.

She underwent the heart transplant in Newcastle in 2007 after becoming seriously ill.

Experts say pregnancy is difficult for organ transplant patients because of the stress it puts on the body and the risk to the foetus.

But after the delivery in January little Logan and family are now doing well.

He weighed 7lb 2½ oz when he went to his home in Mansfield on January 18 and now weighs 9lb 6oz.

Mum Rebecca said: "Logan is doing very well. He is a happy little boy and very healthy, which is the main priority.

"I am so grateful to the staff in the Sherwood Birthing Unit and Hardwick ward at King's Mill Hospital for looking after me so well.

"I never thought I would ever have a baby – Logan really is a little miracle".

Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Arivan Govindarajan said the delivery was a "perfect example of good teamwork from all staff".
