Guilty plea in Carlton death crash case
A Gedling man has admitted causing death by dangerous driving.
David Evans, 30, originally pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed his plea at Nottingham Crown Court today.
Adam Rowlson, 35, was killed outside Carlton Hotel in Valley Road, Carlton, in the early hours of Friday April 4 2008.
Mr Rowlson was hit by a van driven by Evans. He suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
Evans was originally also charged with murder but this charge was dropped during the trial.
Speaking after the case, Mr Rowlson's mum, Johanne Smith, said: "This has been a very long two years for the family since Adam's death. It's been an emotional roller coaster but it's now thankfully coming to an end."
Mr Rowlson worked as a builder at the time of his death and had two children, seven-year-old son Brooklyn and three-year-old daughter Lily May.
Mrs Smith added: "Adam was a very caring person who lived for his family and his two children. He had many friends and was the life and soul of the party, always telling jokes and making people laugh.
"Nobody ever thinks they will lose someone close to them, and I still can't believe Adam is gone. Our family has stuck together throughout this and we have supported each other, but it's still affected us deeply. His two brothers, his sister, and his nieces and nephews miss him every single day.
"We are sympathetic to David Evan's family and we feel sorry for them that they are going through this too, but it does not take away from what he did. He took our son away from us and we are pleased that justice has now been done."
DS John McDonnell, from Nottinghamshire Police's Crash Investigation Unit, said: "This has been a traumatic two years for the family, who have shown great dignity and patience throughout a difficult and challenging investigation, leading to the admission of guilt from David Evans today. We will continue to support the family in this difficult time."
Evans will be sentenced on April 27.
