Greens look to fresh Leeds date
GLENN Delaney expects Nottingham Rugby's postponed game against Leeds Carnegie to be played a week on Wednesday at Meadow Lane.
The two teams were due to meet in the Championship yesterday, but the game was called off on Friday lunch-time because of a frozen pitch.
"It's very frustrating," said the Green and Whites director of rugby.
"We double-sheeted the pitch but the frost still got through and we didn't have a choice in the matter.
"We play Doncaster next Sunday and, if everyone agrees, we will play Leeds midweek, probably on the Wednesday."
Nottingham still need one point to be mathematically sure of a place in the play-offs. "I'm not so worried about that," said Delaney.
"After winning so well last week, I wanted another game just to get a run of form going, especially with the play-offs coming up."
The club had been promoting the game for the last month and had already pre-sold 1600 tickets. "I'm disappointed for Simon (Beatham, chief executive) and all the girls in the office," said Delaney.
"They put an awful of hard work into the day and the Nottingham public showed they were going to come out to support us.
"We were hoping to hit 2,500 and, I'm sure we would have done."
Delaney is taking the positives from the postponement. "Brent Wilson's citing has been put back until tonight so it looks like he will be available for next weekend as will David Jackson, who is back in full training and ready to play.
"Yes, it was frustrating but we've just got to get on with it now."
