A YOUTH group which encourages young people to recycle has been nominated for a Reach Out award.

The 12 members of Gedling District Youth Association – who are aged 13 to 17 – have delivered recycling workshops and lessons.

The group also sent out a survey to schools and found young people did not have enough knowledge about the subject.

The group's Chair, Joshua Davies, 17, said: "We needed a campaign that would bring young people together.

"We thought that by educating people we could improve the facilities in the community."

The group publishes a newsletter to promote recycling and is now trying to get other youth clubs involved with its work.

Youth worker Julie Odell nominated the team for the award in the Green category.

She said: "Young people talking to young people makes such a difference."
