A SCHOOL which has installed a wind turbine is one of the first entries in the 2009 Green Guardians Awards.

The annual competition, run by Notts Wildlife Trust, recognises local individuals, schools, community groups and businesses who are making an effort to help the environment.

The West Bridgford School could win £1,000 if it scoops the Education and the Environment Award.

The wind turbine generates power for the school building, as well as raising awareness of the importance of conserving natural resources for future generations.

The school has also set up a recycling scheme.

Erin McDaid, of Notts Wildlife Trust, said West Bridgford School was an "ideal candidate" for the award.

The closing date is Monday, September 28. To nominate or be entered for an award, visit www.nottinghamshirewildlife. org or call 0115 958 8242.
