GOVERNMENT force inspectors will continue to monitor Notts Police despite the force's improvements in fighting crime.

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) began to monitor Notts Police after a damning report which graded the force as poor in three out of ten key areas.

Representatives of Notts Police spoke with national policing figures and government officials yesterday at a meeting to decide whether the force still needed to be closely monitored by HMIC. While the officials on the Police Performance Steering Group said they were happy with the progress made, they recommended continued monitoring for the time being.

An HMIC spokeswoman said: "There are encouraging signs of improvement and these need to be constant. We will be continuing to monitor the force over the coming months."

The meeting came as Notts Police published the results of Operation Arrow – a 90-day blitz on theft and violence, set up as a direct response to HMIC's criticisms.

The force missed two of the operation's four key targets.

There were 1,883 burglaries in Notts against a target of 1,478; and there were 401 robberies against a target of 311.

However, there were 2,237 incidents of other wounding offences, less than the target of 2,326. The force also beat its 17% target on sanction detections for burglary, robbery and vehicle crime by recording 17.5%.

Notts Chief Constable Julia Hodson, Notts Police Authority chairman, Councillor Jon Collins and the Authority's change manager Alan Given gave presentations to PPSG at the meeting yesterday on the progress made by both organisations over the past three months.

Ms Hodson said: "We are determined to make Nottinghamshire the best performing Force in Britain in every sense.

"That will be a tough ask in the current economic climate when we are faced with severe cuts in funding; but by continuing to work closely with the Authority, with HMIC, with other partners, and, most importantly with the public, we will do everything we can to achieve this aim."

“Hope you can back up your last statement Ms Evans?

You aware of the laws of both slander and libel??

Thought not.... Most comments here are critical of the standard of law enforcement in Nottm. Making wild allegations about a bunch of people trying very hard without a lot of support and you leave yourself open to legal action.

Try looking at the number of civil cases brought to bear against the Print and Electronic media ....THEY ALL LOOSE!

Want to be next? cos alongside you in court will be NEP Executives!”

“Replace one failing chief constable with another, this time brought in from another failing force, and what do you get? Same old same old.

Notts police are good at installing speed cameras then lying about why they have been used, lying to motorists caught by ameras, lying to the general public about their clear-up rates, covering up their own offences, selling out to criminal gangs, failing to respond to calls and employing intimidation, and threats against the innocent. They are not good at preventing crime, solving crime,r making the public feel safe or doing htejob they're overpaid for.

In fact there seems to me to be minimal difference between the police and criminals, except that so far I have not been a victim of the latter. Hodson is not going to change anything..”

“never fear pro bono because now we have captain (JC) Collins and the new "change" in charge,
he is going to do for the police what he did for the council (whatever that is,i dont know but someone might)
on a slightly more worrying note is that the almighty JC (no connection) was voted to attend to the affairs of nottingham city council yet the other day he was vying for the position of MP amongst other thumbs in various pies,
the term jack of all trades springs to mind for this super human ,”

“Nottinghamshire Police Force is in very short supply of effective leadership and until that deficiency is corrected it will limp along from one missed target to another.
I don't know about "monitoring over the coming months" its more like monitoring over the coming years.
The Force's problems are endemic, Steve Green was useless and I expect that Julia Hodson is cut from the same cloth; get promoted by keeping one step ahead of your debris seems to be motto of senior Force management.
Do the job you are paid to do or get out!”

    “So based on this report
"The force missed two of the operation's four key targets." Only a 50% gain.... not good enough yet the powers to be go and ask to call the dogs off....you have to be kidding! You get a 50% reduction and you wnat HMIC to leave us alone... no we are in trouble because....

"Ms Hodson said: "We are determined to make Nottinghamshire the best performing Force in Britain in every sense.

"That will be a tough ask in the current economic climate when we are faced with severe cuts in funding; but by continuing to work closely with the Authority, with HMIC, with other partners, and, most importantly with the public, we will do everything we can to achieve this aim."

What a load of bunkum A three month 'blitz' which cannot be maintained under current funding is stretching the troops. So based on a 6.25% reduction in funding how can the crime rate be lowered??

and finally this pearl of wisdom, again
"Ms Hodson said: "We are determined to make Nottinghamshire the best performing Force in Britain in every sense."

One word HOW, how can that be acheived....it can't... knit one pearl one....oops dropped another stitch”
