FOOTBALL'S world governing body Fifa has rejected the use of goal-line video technology to help match officials determine whether goals have or haven't been scored.

One of the men who voted to keep technology out of football is Raymond Kennedy, who is president of the Northern Irish FA.

"I don't believe there is enough controversial goals to warrant installing that technology at our football grounds," he said.

"Where do you stop? Will we have it for offside then? Will we have cameras right up the ground?"

He added: "We believe, to be honest, our game is played by humans and we want human eyeballs to decide if it is a goal or not a goal. Yes, there will be mistakes but, again, people thrive on the controversy of football."

Former World Cup referee Graham Poll says he believes Fifa are digging their heels in because of their own arrogance.

According to Poll, football's rejection of technology has been made for no better reason than the fact sports like tennis, rugby and cricket have beaten football to it. And that, above all else, is too big a pill to swallow.

I tend to agree with him.

    “Agreed.

I can't believe that people support Fifa's stance.

It's alright for people to talk about 'the odd decision', but that could make all the difference between, say, a club staying up and not.

And technology hasn't taken anything away from Tennis; I think, in fact, it's added to it.”
