Gedling Town finally claim derby Cup tie win
GEDLING Town will play near neighbours Arnold Town in the fourth round of the Notts Senior Cup after beating Gedling Miners Welfare at the fourth attempt.
After three postponements, the game finally went ahead, and Town ran out 3-1 winners.
It was a closely-fought game, with many players up against their former club.
Town secretary Graham Peck said: "We played some great passing football, and Aaron Ryan's opening goal was as good as you will see anywhere. You could see his delight at it being against his old club.
"The same went for Ryan Johnson, who got the second – again it was against his former side.
"Welfare contributed in good spirit and we were all mates after the game in the bar.
"Our only wish is that we play like this every game after a flat performance at Greenwood last Saturday."
Town are away to Holbrook this afternoon, followed by a League Cup semi-final against Borrowash at Radford on Wednesday night.
Manager Mark Allison said of the cup clash: "Borrowash have been slipping up lately and we want revenge for a 5-0 drubbing at their place.
"But this is on neutral territory so it will be more even."
