Gearing up for the Gedling Show
MORE than 15,000 people from across the borough and beyond will be heading to Carlton for the Gedling Show.
Plans have been finalised for the event, which takes place on August 30 and 31 on fields by the Richard Herrod Leisure Centre, Foxhill Road.
There will be plenty of sporting activities to tie in with Olympic year as well as the usual favourites.
Youngsters from Netherfield Boys and Girls Football Club will be showing off their talent with soccer demonstrations.
Mark Flynn, club founder, said: "It's a brilliant show, there's something for everybody and it seems to get better and better each year.
"The kids will be looking forward to showing off their skills to the public and they'll be a penalty shoot- out."
British Cycling will challenge cyclists of all levels and ages on their biking skills and people can pick up a racquet with the Tennis Federation.
The army will also be putting people through their paces on a climbing wall.
There will also be a sponsored row by a team of Gedling fitness advisers in aid of Spinabifida sufferer Stella Goodman, 72, from Carlton, who needs a wheelchair to achieve her goal of competing in a marathon.
On the Saturday, Gedling's DNA health and fitness staff will row for 12 hours to raise cash.
Children's entertainers Polly and Jolly and trampolining stunt men the Crazy Tramps will be on hand to entertain the family.
And the Gedling Play Forum will be offering table-top activities, face painting and circus skills, and variety of arts and crafts.
The borough's largest horticultural show, with more than 100 categories, will be judged on the Saturday.
A Britain Memorial Spitfire Flypast takes to the skies on Sunday, when visitors can also enter their pets into the dog show – with prizes including wettest nose and best rescue dog.
And more than 50 cars will be on display at a 70s classic car and motorbike show on the Sunday. The Mayor of Gedling, Coun Richard Goodwin, who will present trophies and prizes to the best classic car, best sports car, best motorbike and best vintage vehicle, said: "The show is a great day out for all the family – there is something to keep everyone amused."
There will be a beer tent and food court.
