Club night tribute to super-fit dad
THE daughters of a Nottingham fitness expert who died suddenly have organised a charity night in his memory.
Monique Mundle, 17, and Jordan Hatfield, 21, are to celebrate what would have been their dad's 46th birthday with an event at Pink Nightclub tonight.
They put together the evening to raise money for Notts Athletics Cub.
Monique, of Wilford, said: "It's a chance for people who knew him and people he had an impact on to get together and celebrate his life and remember him.
"We wanted to tie it in to charity and picked Notts AC because he enjoyed his work with children and would encourage them to be active."
Chris Mundle's death from a heart attack on August 31 last year came as an even bigger shock to his family because he was so active.
The black belt 6th Dan represented the English and British Karate teams and won medals at national, European and World levels and was fitness coach to the national team.
His knowledge of health and fitness saw him appear on TV shows including Britain's Next Top Model, The Esther Show with Esther Rantzen, The Long Way Down with Ewan McGregor and BBC Watch Dog with Gabby Roslyn.
He featured in Tatler magazine's Best of British, helping clients to achieve their fitness goals.
A social worker and qualified PE teacher, he had moved to London to pursue his career in 1987 but kept in close contact with Nottingham.
Monique added: "I think everyone will have different memories of him.
"As his daughter I'll have different memories to people he worked with. But I think everyone says he always had a smile on his face."
She added she felt the time was now right to focus on the positives of Chris' life rather than the grief of losing him.
"When he died we had e-mails and calls from across the world, Spain, France, Bermuda. It was amazing.
"His funeral was packed, we had to stop letting people in.
"It's now just carrying it on and doing something positive out of it. The funeral and remembering him was very hard and so this is a celebration for something that he stood for."
The evening will include Chris' favourite music and a performance by his brother Denzii.
Chris left a partner, Jo in London, four brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Reuben, five.
Monique's mum, Claire Mundle, and Jordan's mum, Linda Hatfield, have supported their daughters' efforts.
Claire said: "We're both proud. To be their ages and want to do all this is very admirable."
Tickets priced at £10 are available from: Ultimate Barba, Radford Road; Cookie Shake, Parliament Street or Facebook group ''Chris Mundle Memorial group''. Call 07702 129135 or text name, number and tickets wanted to 07505 172169.
