ANIMAL rights activists are giving away free vegetarian food today to celebrate the anniversary of the 'McLibel' case.

The case was a long-running 'David and Goliath' court action for libel filed by McDonald's against environmental activists Helen Steel and David Morris, over a leaflet critical of the company.

Judge Roger Bell delivered his verdict on June 19, 1997, which despite ruling in favour of McDonald's, endorsed some of the points in the leaflet.

The food will be given away outside the McDonald's in Exchange Walk today from noon.
