A FRAUDSTER has today been jailed for 15 months for attempting to claim £58,500 by making fake deposits into his post office bank account.

David Eggleston, 27, of Hawksley Gardens, Clifton, made the payments to himself using a stamp from a former post office.

National Savings questioned the payments when Eggleston tried to request a new bank book in September 2008.

Investigations found the post office stamped had shut in January 2008.

Eggleston, who worked at Keyworth Post Office, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to five charges of fraud, three of forgery and one of perverting the course of justice.

The court also took a further 12 counts of fraud into consideration.

The court heard he also forged two wills using an internet website.

John Fountain, prosecuting, said Eggleston created a fake will following the death of his great-uncle, Jack Holiday, of Brinsley, in October 2008.

Eggleston's mother, Margaret, was one of four of Mr Holiday's nieces and nephews who he had said would receive equal shares of his estate upon his death.

The fake will created by Eggleston, however, stated that Mrs Eggleston would receive a 75% share of the estate.

Eggleston also created another fake will to try and help his long-term partner's mother benefit from the death of a relative.

Maria Talbot, defending, said a psychiatric report stated Eggleston "appeared to be completely out of touch with reality".

Sentencing, Judge Dudley Bennett said: "The fact is when you strip it all away, you are a thoroughly dishonest man. You committed despicable offences."

“I totally agree with Bill Lawrenson. Margaret and Roy serve the village of Keyworth well as did Margarets parents previously. I hope this village afford them the support they deserve.”
