Forest target Davies to replace sacked Calderwood
BILLY Davies is Nottingham Forest's number one choice to replace Colin Calderwood, the Evening Post understands.
The club are hoping to make an appointment in the next 24 hours, before the trip to relegation rivals Norwich.

And, while Alan Pardew, Alan Curbishley and Adrian Boothroyd remain potential candidates for the role, it is former Derby manager Davies who tops the club's list.
It is understood Davies was initially approached more than a month ago, when the pressure began to build on Calderwood as Forest struggled to acclimatise to life in the Championship.
And, now the axe has fallen on the Scot, following last night's dour 4-2 home defeat at the hands of struggling Doncaster, Forest are likely to pursue fresh talks with the man who steered the Rams into the Premiership.
Former Reading, West Ham and Charlton boss Pardew is also in the running however, along with Boothroyd, who guided Watford into the top flight, and Curbishly, who had long periods of success with Charlton.
Calderwood was sacked following a run of only four wins in 25 matches.
Chief executive Mark Arthur said: "We are grateful to Colin for leading us to promotion from League One. But we are in a results business and it is imperative that the club stays in the Championship. We need to give ourselves an opportunity to do that."

“CC was doing his best but just did not have the experience to cope with the upgrade to "the championship".
Davies does have a good track record in the higher divisions.
But how come he's still out of work???
So whoever we get how long before the boos begin again??
We need to support the new bloke and the squad for more than a couple of games!!”

“As a complete football Anorac can someone please tell me why a continuing bad performance is always down to the manager. Is it because he fails to tell the players that they have to prepare and put in 100% effort for a mere ninety minutes I THINK NOT !”

“I believe Davies would be a BIG mistake for this club. He was sacked after producing the 'worst club in history' as we reminded the sheep. And he's not been offered a job since then for obvious reasons - we'd be stupid to give him the chance to do it to us. Please don't do this to us - we've suffered enough with the list of jokers that have departed in recent years. We have a chance to install a manager of spirit and quality - and we look like employing another joke that no-one else wants. Close the door and switch the lights off as you leave.”

“why don't Forest and the fans forget the past and realise the team is as good as it gets. Wake up and smell the coffee. They will never be a top team again and so you should just get used to where they are. It's where the side belong.”

“Please Forest, spare us from that fat old ex-sheep sh****r. Billy Davies... he is worse than CC. This would be a real mistake and a big step back for this club. Come Mark Arthur & Co put your money where your mouth is and bring Roy Keane back to the City Ground”

“I can understand forest not wanting davies, no one likes local rivals links, but you will probably get him...boards don't seem to listen.
Be good to see someone like Hoddle or Ince try and install some passion and technique. Can't see it though.
Watch this space”

“I do feel sorry for C.C but after being their on boxing day he needed to go. As far as a replacement Alan Curbishley, or Roy Keane are the way forward for me. Pearce or Nigel would be the dream but why would either of them risk their hero status at the City Ground. Maybe wait a couple of games and see how JP does!!”

“Whenever i read the comments on this site i can never understand why C.C. had so many fans.He had a good tool (Forest) but as a so called tradesman, struggled to manafacture a decent team.Let's be right, the football under C.C. has been poor. This could be the start of a exciting new era if the right appointment is made. There are a lot of good managers out of work at the moment. I don't know why B.Davies is getting so much flac .Always seemed to me, to be doing a good job at his last 2 clubs .I'd settle for top 6 in this league or the premiership,at this moment in time. That's his track record.Don't sound bad to me.Anyway whoever it is,it surely can't be any worse than than the last 2 years or so under C.C.”
