BILLY Davies is now the firm favourite to be the next manager of Nottingham Forest if the club do take the decision to sack Colin Calderwood.

The Evening Post understands that preliminary talks have already been held with the former Derby County manager and he has confirmed he is interested in the role.

Calderwood has been left under pressure following a run of just two wins in 19 Championship matches, a run that has left them rooted to the foot of the table.

And it is thought that the club hierarchy could be ready to swing the axe before the visit of Barnsley on Saturday.

As stated earlier on thisisnottingham.co.uk former Notts County boss Sam Allardyce is thought to be out of the running, as the ex-Bolton and Newcastle man holds out for another job in the Premiership.

“sorry to all of u guys that have comented but i personally think that calderwood should go because if he doesnt now we will be in more trouble than ever and will be virtually impossible to get out of the relegation zone.

Also to be honest he has spent his money stupidly yh he his a good player but earnshaw has had 5 goals in 19 games and for 2.65 million i think is discusting grant holt got more than that and he was worth 500 000 yh we were in league one but he did more than what earnshaw is doing now. dnt get billy davies in cuz that will be a shambles. yh we can give him a tiny bit of credit for finding a good goal keeper but in my eyes to have a good goal keeper you have to have a good defence and that is certainly what we havnt quite got yet because we are always making mistakes at the back which are costing us vital points i mean two wins in 19 games that is apawling.”

“If CC goes, I feel it is for his blind loyalty to his own signings. He plays Chambers at right back when he could be playing Perch who is a recognised right back. It is no coincidence that the best we have played this season was with Breckin at the back. With him and Camp commanding the area, Forest looked good again. With how Wilson played when he first started, I could never believe Preston let him go, then he displayed his lack of concentration in the 3rd quarter of last season and has done the same this. He just switches off and this league does not allow that. He is undoubtedly a skilfull defender, just not as good as he thinks he is. look at the clearance against Norwich that gifted them the 1st goal. I am in the camp that hates to see managers come and go, especially when we have had so many goal attempts eg 18 against Norwich. The players just don't seem composed and I think the defence needs shoring up. CC, if you get to last chance saloon against Barnsley, give yourself a chance and play Brecks at centre half and Perchie at right back. Show some balls and you might just turn the corner. Get them playing like they did against Birmingham and you will do fine. Different class completely but I seem to remember Fergie turning it round with allegedly 1 game to go. Before you all start about them being completely different, I know that but the situation is the same. I will be there on saturday supporting the team and whoever is in charge, I just hope it is not Davies, he looked clueless last year and does defend a lead. Deja vu??????”

“If they are going to get rid of Calderwood I would rather see John Pemberton get the job. He has done amazing with the reserves and only the other night his brand of football was highly praised by Arsene Wenger at a reserve game. He knows all the players and gets the best out of them by playing to their strengths. Football is a simple game and John Pemberton seems to of grasped the fundamental basics in order for a team to work and flourish. There is no way he would be any worse than Davies.”

“I agree with Steve from Beeston that negotiations should not be going on behind the existing managers back.
If CC does get the push though Alan Pardew would be ideal, he did a great job at Reading and laid the foundations for their rise from Div 1 to the Prem. Also good with young players and passionate about the game .”
