TODAY is the final one for Nottingham Forest to make permanent transfers and I, for one, hope manager Billy Davies lands a couple of players.Yes, Forest had been on a nice little unbeaten run before Saturday's defeat to Cardiff. And yes they hadn't lost in ten games on the road until their visit to Wales.

They have done a great job to move out of the bottom three and be three points clear of the dreaded drop zone.

But it cannot be used to mask the fact that Forest need to strengthen. And Davies has come out and said exactly that.

Experience is needed, a few players in different positions and I just hope the board back the manager in every way to ensure he lands the players he wants.

He knows who they are, players that he is confident will do a job. And, as manager, they have to trust that and do all they can to pull them off before the deadline passes.

Obviously, the left-back department is a problem, Davies has said as much already.

But I hope he brings in a couple of midfielders. For me, at times, they are not being effective enough, I have seen it all season.

You want them getting the ball, turning quickly and getting forward. They need to supply the strikers with the chances.

Look at Garath McCleary's pass that set up Nathan Tyson against Sheffield Wednesday. It was defence-splitting and created a goal.

But such balls seem few and far between. Often they take too long to get it out of their feet that the next ball is sideways or backwards.

That has been a common problem throughout the season and it stifles them in their attacks.

The midfield is the engine room. I have said before, it is great having a Rolls-Royce, but if you have no engine in it is to use to anyone.

So I hope Davies brings in a couple of players with experience who can make things happen and can add another dimension to Forest's play.

Let's keep our fingers crossed it happens, because that is what is required to stay out of danger in the Championship.
