PETERBOROUGH chairman Darragh MacAnthony today confirmed winger George Boyd is set to join Nottingham Forest on loan.

Peterborough's prize asset – who has netted 12 goals already this season – is to arrive at the City Ground on loan for the rest of the season.

The two clubs are believed to have agreed a potential future fee for a permanent switch in the summer.

MacAnthony described it as being a sad day.

"This is one of my worst moments as owner of the club," he said. "This was not a financial decision and the fans need to believe me on that.

"George has been honest with me and he and his agent informed me that there was no way a new contract would be signed and he would like the opportunity of playing at a higher level.

"I am a fan of George Boyd and will continue to be and hope to watch him on TV next season strutting his stuff in the Premier league and at same time feeling proud of the fact that I may have played a small part in helping him get there."

With the Championship side struggling against relegation – and Boyd's contract set to expire at the end of next season – Forest have pounced.

Billy Davies intimated last week that any loan deals done between now and the end of the season were likely to be with a view to a permanent move.

Forest would have to pay a seven-figure sum for the player, who has been a key man in Peterborough's rise from League Two into the second tier.

The 24-year-old cost Peterborough £260,000 when he signed from Stevenage in January 2007 and has made 157 starts and six sub appearances overall for the Posh, scoring 43 goals in total.

“Very good addition. I'm a forest season ticket holder but work down in P'boro during the week and have been to london road a couple of times lst season and this lad is quality. Not very quick but excellent feet, creative, good in the air and not afraid to shoot. Surprisingly physical/strong too which we need to throw in the mix. Will take some pressure off Raddy....who I think has struggled a bit with expectations on him and also allow Anderson to destroy teams down the right where he belongs. Good times everyone - will be the boost we need at the very least to see us into the playoffs in good form. If others follow then happy days. Cohen back to left back short term as Perchy bless him just aint working there 3 touches everytime it comes to him has been the difference away from home when under pressure a left footer is a must at LB and cohen was quality there too if we can't get anyone else so be it. Also anyone think like me that our skipper needs a few weeks rest he's struggled last 4 games I've seen him, Cov away, Sheff U, Boro & City on Saturday. Give the mouss or lewis a run and bring Skip back fresh for the run in!??”

“Bloody brilliant signing Forest well done i thought this may have been hot air but its all true another cracking loanee as Richard has stated 12 goals from midfield in a average posh team is excellent .

George Boyd has stated he knew nothing about Forest's interest untill late monday night but he has said that he jumped at the chance to join us and never had any doubt about it as the chance to join us permanent in the summer are in with the deal.

Phil i totally agree Boyd linking up with super Majewski sounds great and im licking my lips at the thought of the match saturday now more than ever new bllod is in.

Well done BD and Nott'm Forest another great day Trentside especially with the great news of a certain Mr bennett making 45 mins of come back football.

Good luck saturday lads im sure the City Ground will be rocking against the Swans.
    uuuuuuuureds .”

    “Red Fred..........
The Reason the Posh are letting him go is because he stated that he didnt want to renew his contract at the club which runs out end of next season..........so unfortunately for us.....Big Mac decided we should cash in on him before his value decreases day by day

Im gutted hes gone, but id rather get the money from him now than let him leave for free in 18 months.....wise move i say!!! good luck boydy......wish him all the best”

“Even as a Notts fan, I know this is a great signing for you. Boyd was one of the major reasons Posh got their two promotions.

    A good deal, IMO.”
