Forest keeper Camp has the quality to get into England reckoning, says Davies
LEE Camp could force his way into the thoughts of England manager Fabio Capello – if he can repeat his remarkable form of last season.
That is the message from Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies, who believes last season's Reds' player of the year remains the best keeper in the Championship.
Watford's Scott Loach and Blackburn rookie Frankie Fielding were both surprise inclusions in the England squad that faced Hungary at Wembley last week, following the withdrawal of Ben Foster due to injury and the retirement of Paul Robinson.
And Davies believes that, if other keepers with no top-flight experience can be given a call-up, then the door may also be open for Camp in the future.
"Lee was given his accolades last season, which were deserved," said Davies of the keeper who kept 19 clean sheets in the last campaign.
"It is not my job to pick somebody else's team for them but, from a performance point of view, Camp deserved all the accolades he got.
"He proved he is one of the best keepers at this level. His ability has never been in doubt."
The one minor question mark over Camp – who is 26 on Sunday – is his height, although at 6ft, he is hardly small.
"People will say he is too small. But they do not say Shay Given is too small, they say he is fantastic," said Davies.
"All Campy can do is keep performing as we know he can, because last season he was excellent. Then we will see."
Camp's form last season had prompted many Forest fans to call for him to gain senior international recognition.
Despite failing to keep a clean sheet so far during the current campaign, Camp was again in good form against Leeds United on Sunday.
Camp has already represented England at virtually every age group, including the U21 side.

Surely the use of "allegedly" on Sirles007, Nottm, first comment solves the legal problem.
We use it all the time to deflect the lawyers.”
