COLIN Calderwood today revealed that Nottingham Forest have been putting extra emphasis on their finishing in training.

But he believes his players will start thriving on instinct, sooner rather than later.

The Reds squad have been put through extra sessions of crossing and shooting in training over the past month.

But Calderwood is convinced the likes of Robert Earnshaw and Joe Garner will soon start finding the back of the net, with Forest still creating plenty of chances.

"Finishing practice is relevant and it does focus people's minds. It is something that the players enjoy as well," said Calderwood.

"You try and take things to the nth degree, to make sure that their concentration and professionalism is there, when they do have chances.

"When they do find themselves in a position when they have a two or three v one situation or they are through on the keeper, the ball ends up in the back of the net.

"What we have been saying to players in training has suddenly become very relevant and they are realising that now."

But Calderwood believes Forest will soon start to convert more of their opportunities.

"They live on their instincts," he said. "We have had Robert Earnshaw away, through on goal, and the keeper made a good save. But you live for those moments.

"We keep creating similar situations and, if we can keep doing that, we will score goals. And I am confident that we can keep creating those situations."

However, Calderwood admits that set-plays are still an important source of goals for the Reds.

"The way we have scored recently has frequently been from set-plays, from corners and free-kicks, which obviously makes them all the more important, particularly in tight games when there are very few clear chances on goal," he said.
