NOTTINGHAM Forest today failed to bolster their squad before the transfer window slammed shut.

The Reds had been chasing Swansea midfielder Darren Pratley and Cardiff winger Peter Whittingham all summer, having earlier bids rejected.

But by the time the window closed at 6pm, they had not tied up deals for any new players.

Manager Billy Davies had said the club needed to make 'four or five' stellar signings if they were to challenge for promotion from the Championship.

The Reds are without a win this season, prior to the international break.

The only player they brought in was full back Ryan Bertrand, on loan from Chelsea, on the eve of the new season.

Meanwhile Julian Bennett was allowed to join Crystal Palace on loan, Joe Garner went to Huddersfield and the Reds sold James Perch to Newcastle.

“The biggest factor here is the lack of journalism from the Nottingham Evening Post. Commnets on these forums indicate the groundswell against the current predicament.

If this was Manchester or Birmingham the local papers would be demanding answers for fans or providing editorials to voice the fans dismay!”

“So Doughty's cheap and cheerful approach to life in general has failed. His lacl of vision, and ability to make quality signings, or attract quality players is now into Forest folklaw.

Time to Go nige, take marthur with you, he's a boat anchor too

As for signings or the lack of I saw this article on BBC football, on Free Agents see attached link. So before i get binned by the nay sayers here. Some of these players will be good and as Doughty doesnt like spending our money some of these players could be the gems we so desperately need.

If the link doesn't work, go the PFA website and look for the current list of players on the transfer list....all 31 pages. Some good players there too”

“There is only one explanation that makes any sence to me. ND is actually out of cash but cant say so because of his business interests. Its the only thing I can think of other than he just dont want us in the prem.”

“I'm always disturbed to read the kind of nasty hostility some football fans have towards the people that run football clubs. So I feel I have to voice my support in their defence.
Forest are now, apparently, in a healthy financial state and yet are not owned by someone who is an oil sheik, a US multinational or some dodgy mafia guy from Russia.
Having said that, the complete absence of a single full signing for twelve months is very odd indeed for a club that supposedly had ambitions to return to the top flight.
"Odd" - in fact - is a gross understatement. It might help calm fans down and allay fears if the club at least tried to give some kind of credible explanation for this bizarre episode.

“1998-the club shafted dave bassett after he got us up,
2003-the club shafted paul hart after he got us into the play-offs,
2010-the club are shafting billy davies after he got us 3rd in the championship.
only managers who do good at this club get shafted by the board, why?”
