Forest boss Davies: We need to add quality and quantity to our squad
NOTTINGHAM Forest manager Billy Davies felt his team deserved to go on and win the game after their 1-1 draw at Reading but is still looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline.
Alex Pearce had put the Royals ahead against the run of play before home keeper Adam Federici – who was outstanding in the first period to keep Forest at bay – made a horrible mess of a clearance to allow Robert Earnshaw to pounce.
Davies said: "I am delighted with the point and we should have taken all three. Their goalkeeper didn't deserve that because he kept them in the game, but the goal was no more than we deserved after dominating the first half.
"I am very clear what we have to do now. We must add quality, quantity and depth to this squad.
"The process is quite simple. You have to identify targets, look at valuations and then ask whether we can pay the transfer fees and match the personal terms. That's the big question.
"I don't know whether we can because I don't do that. We finished third in the league last season and I am clear in mind what has to be done; identify, evaluate and see if we can pay.
"I am more concerned about performance than where we are in the league at the moment.
"Our fans know that in the games they have watched so far, we have had a lack of discipline through age and a weak underbelly.
"But they gave us standing ovations at Burnley and here again at Reading, who should have been dead and buried at half-time."

“I used to think Nigel was a Forest fan but without the knowhow of running a football club. He is obviously a business man in the real world but I think that he is only playing at being a football M.D. He has not saved Forest as they are a lesser club than when he first came on the scene. He took them down and now he should be taking them back up again. Somewhere along the line though he got mixed up with some poor advisors who seem to be leading him astray, for reasons unknown. It seems to be that they dislike Billy Davies and wish to drive him out even if it means that Forest will suffer. These inept advisors are a danger to our club but because they are Nigel's friends they will be here longer than Billy. Billy's latest comments after the Reading match will make them more determined to be rid of him, because every Billy moan is directed at them. They appear to be either incompetent or criminaly devious. Either way they must go if Forest are to get promotion and now is the time to act.
Give Billy your vocal support. PLEAT OUT”

“I think there is a lot of extreme reactions at the moment. We've got to wait until the end of the transfer windows and see how the land lies then. The vast majority of clubs are waiting for the last few days of the window as they know that the 25 man squad rule will mean there will be bargains a-plenty going.
If BD hasnt been backed at the close of the window, that's the time to get vocal about ND out etc. Until then its just a bit premature. Its still possible BD could get his 5 or so stellar signings.
If he's not backed, I'll be the first to criticise the board as BD is one of the best managers we've had at the City Ground. The man is talented and can get us to the PL - no doubt.”

“If Doughty hadn't saved us we would have gone into adminstration and probably down to league one possibly staying there for as long as three years. We would have seen barren year after barren year probably for as long as 11 years.”

“I have read, seen & heard some silly comments from Forest fans through out the summer but James who posted at 1:01pm has just topped the lot. Doughty rescued our club from the "idiotic days of Platt" are you having a laugh? Are you forgetting who it was that employed David Platt?? Who was it that gave him the money to spend on utter rubbish? It was the FA who saved us from the Platt days NOT Doughty. The only 2 good managers Doughty has employed since he has been at the club he has not backed either sufficiently and it is ridiculous. At the point when Doughty took over we were a big club going through troubled times 11 years later we are now known as a club that used to be big a few years ago.
Doughty's tenure has been absolutely shocking and it is time for a change. In his time with us he has taken the club to an all time low and employed terrible manager after terrible manager. He finaly gets one right after years of us fans suffering and he and the board are doing everything in their power to ensure he will not be with us come the end of the season.
And another thing I don't buy all this "there would be no Forest if it wasn't for Doughty" NONSENSE someone else would have bought us.
BILLY IN DOUGHTY AND HIS MERRY MEN OUT.”

“This has to be a wind up....there's no way Billy is going anywhere, he's quality! Its David Pleat and the transfer comittee who should be getting the boot and let Billy manage his own team. He's a shrewd enough bloke who knows what the team needs and is not goign to do a David Platt and spend his money on some 59 year olf Italian.
If Doughty can afford to get O'Neill in, then he also should be able to afford to give Billy the cash to get the additional players he needs and take us into the premier league.
Stick with Billy, he's the best thing to happen to Forest this century!

“Billy Davies should have the full support of both Forest fans and the Forest board, this story is the work of the gutter press who since the end of last season have tried their best to to make a story out of a split between the club and it's manager, what needs to happen is we go about our buisness in a profesional manner and keep any in house matters in house. We came within touching distance of the premiership last term and as Mr Davies so rightly says WE ARE NOT READY YET FOR THE PREMIER LEAGUE but with the right signings we will get there and has our chairman has put in place a”
