Forest boss Davies: We need to add quality and quantity to our squad

NOTTINGHAM Forest manager Billy Davies felt his team deserved to go on and win the game after their 1-1 draw at Reading but is still looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline.

Alex Pearce had put the Royals ahead against the run of play before home keeper Adam Federici – who was outstanding in the first period to keep Forest at bay – made a horrible mess of a clearance to allow Robert Earnshaw to pounce.

Davies said: "I am delighted with the point and we should have taken all three. Their goalkeeper didn't deserve that because he kept them in the game, but the goal was no more than we deserved after dominating the first half.

"I am very clear what we have to do now. We must add quality, quantity and depth to this squad.

"The process is quite simple. You have to identify targets, look at valuations and then ask whether we can pay the transfer fees and match the personal terms. That's the big question.

"I don't know whether we can because I don't do that. We finished third in the league last season and I am clear in mind what has to be done; identify, evaluate and see if we can pay.

"I am more concerned about performance than where we are in the league at the moment.

"Our fans know that in the games they have watched so far, we have had a lack of discipline through age and a weak underbelly.

"But they gave us standing ovations at Burnley and here again at Reading, who should have been dead and buried at half-time."

“I used to think Nigel was a Forest fan but without the knowhow of running a football club. He is obviously a business man in the real world but I think that he is only playing at being a football M.D. He has not saved Forest as they are a lesser club than when he first came on the scene. He took them down and now he should be taking them back up again. Somewhere along the line though he got mixed up with some poor advisors who seem to be leading him astray, for reasons unknown. It seems to be that they dislike Billy Davies and wish to drive him out even if it means that Forest will suffer. These inept advisors are a danger to our club but because they are Nigel's friends they will be here longer than Billy. Billy's latest comments after the Reading match will make them more determined to be rid of him, because every Billy moan is directed at them. They appear to be either incompetent or criminaly devious. Either way they must go if Forest are to get promotion and now is the time to act.
Give Billy your vocal support. PLEAT OUT”

“I think there is a lot of extreme reactions at the moment. We've got to wait until the end of the transfer windows and see how the land lies then. The vast majority of clubs are waiting for the last few days of the window as they know that the 25 man squad rule will mean there will be bargains a-plenty going.

If BD hasnt been backed at the close of the window, that's the time to get vocal about ND out etc. Until then its just a bit premature. Its still possible BD could get his 5 or so stellar signings.

If he's not backed, I'll be the first to criticise the board as BD is one of the best managers we've had at the City Ground. The man is talented and can get us to the PL - no doubt.”

“If Doughty hadn't saved us we would have gone into adminstration and probably down to league one possibly staying there for as long as three years. We would have seen barren year after barren year probably for as long as 11 years.”
