NOTTINGHAM Forest today agreed a £750,000 deal with Preston to bring midfielder Paul McKenna to the City Ground.

The Reds have been trying to pull off the deal all the summer, with their Championship rivals knocking back three previous bids.

McKenna has been at Deepdale his whole career, making more than 450 appearances.

He played under Reds boss Billy Davies at Preston and was keen to link up with him at the City Ground.

He is now free to discuss personal terms with the Reds.

Meanwhile Coventry City have turned down a third Forest bid for defender Danny Fox

But the latest offer is believed to be under £2million, well short of the £3m figure that might tempt City to part with one of their prime assets.

“Redleg Don't forget Thornhill but even so we need a couple of quality backs to give Lee Camp an opportunity to mark up a few clean sheets this season. I'd break the bank to get Gunter back.”

“The squad is shaping up nicely. I'm in agreement with most of the posters that we need to bolster defence now. Although Wilson, Morgan, Chambers Perch wouldn't be the weakest back four in the CCC it certainly could do with some additional improvement.
But I'm surely has got it covered.”

“Someone posted last year's final positions for Trees and Sheep. I see the sheep conceded more goals - and they say our defence is bad. How many did Blackpool concede?”
