IN the 1990s their names were sung from the stands at the City Ground and Meadow Lane.

Now, Nottingham Forest and Notts County fans can once again see their heroes don the famous shirts, this time in the name of charity.

Former Forest stars – goalkeeper Mark Crossley, defender Des Walker and midfielders Bryan Roy and Neil Webb – will line up in the Forest legends team against Leicester City Legends. They will be joined by former Notts County heroes Mark Draper and Tommy Johnson.

The clash, played over two legs, will raise money for the charity When You Wish Upon A Star, which grants wishes to seriously ill children.

Roy, who played for Holland in the 1994 World Cup, is flying back from his homeland.

Crossley, now 42, said: "It's great to get all the players back together. Bryan is coming over from Holland. I played with him in 1994-95 and I haven't seen him since he left."

The first game will be played at Quorn in Leicestershire on Sunday, with the second match at Dunkirk a week later.

The match is being held in memory of former Dunkirk chairman Jack Riley, a keen supporter of the charity who died last September.

Crossley, who is now manager's assistant and reserve team coach for Chesterfield FC, added: "As soon as you get asked to do something like this it's great if you can gather a lot of players together. We lost last year to Leicester because they had fitter players, but I think we'll win this year.

"Jack Riley used to do a lot of work for the charity. He was a stand-out character and he was very well respected."

Maggie Falconer, from the charity, said: "We are really looking forward to the event and delighted that we have been chosen."

Confirmed players for Forest legends are: Mark Crossley, Des Walker, Neil Webb, Bryan Roy, Jon Hjelde, David Johnson, Des Lyttle, Gary Mills, Nigel Jemson, Gary Charles, Mark Draper, Tommy Johnson. They will be managed by former Forest and Notts County boss Ian McParland.
