Farnsfield promoted
FARNSFIELD have won promotion to the Nottinghamshire Premier League after two excellent performances against Bridon and Edinstowe.
But despite completely dismantling Edinstowe in their Bassetlaw Cricket League fixture, Farnsfield could only manage a winning draw.
Batting first on a very wet wicket, Farnsfield managed 201-7, mainly due to excellent knocks from Paul Delaney (35), skipper Paul Franks (79) and Glyn Edwards, who was unbeaten on 45 when the innings closed.
In reply, Edwinstowe were never given the chance to get started as Brett Hutton and Neil Sharp tore into them right from the start.
Hutton, just 15 years old, took 4-13 and no Edwinstowe batsman looked comfortable against him. Sharp provided the experience and an immaculate line and length to capture 3-21, leaving Edwinstowe hanging on desperately on 83-9 when the overs were completed.
It was a valiant effort to hold on for that long, but in truth they were roundly beaten.
Glapwell finished a good season with a narrow seven-run victory over bottom club Waleswood at Park Avenue, to finish in third. Ritchie Hope top-scored for Glapwell with 79 of their 50-over total of 171-6. Gareth Davis kept a stranglehold on the scoring rate, taking 3-39.
Waleswood have been prone to spectacular collapses this season but this time Saqib Shah (68) defied everything Glapwell threw at him and they neared the target before falling just seven runs short on 164 all out.
Marshalls were crushed by a fast-improving Retford side, but not before Retford had struggled to reach 146-7 against an accurate Marshalls attack.
Any hope Marshalls might have had of a victory though were quickly dispelled and only Kevin Housham (28) made any impression against a Retford attack in which Sam Shepherd (5-9) and Pascal Broadley (3-24) were on fire and proved to be virtually unplayable.
Cutthorpe concluded a poor season by finishing second from bottom. They managed to limit Kiveton Park to just 149-9, with only Australian batsman Ed Brown (63) making any real score. Andy Knowles bowled brilliantly to take 5-29.
But Cutthorpe batted poorly and were dismissed for just 125 with only Matt Cluer (43) propping up a dismal display. Richard Spurr (5- 33) and Lee Brooks (4- 41) simply ran through the flimsy resistance.
An absolute thriller took place at Fourth Avenue that saw Bridon gain a narrow one-wicket victory over Thoresby Colliery. Batting first Thoresby amassed 191 all out, with Martin Cheshire remaining unbeaten on 82. Bridon were well-served by Simon Davison (4-54) and Matt Makings (3-25).
Chasing the target, Bridon reached 192-9 in a desperate finish. Wayne Spooner (37), Tim Muir (50) and youngster Ashley Corrie (48) scored the bulk of the runs while Martin Cheshire was most unlucky to finish on the losing side after taking 4-57 in addition to his excellent batting.
