A FARM in Ravenshead has applied for permission to make wood fuel for heating.

Silverland Farm, in Main Road, has asked Gedling Borough Council if it can process wood chippings from tree surgery for use in wood boilers and stoves.

The planning application says this would allow the farm to generate income through an environmentally-friendly form of fuel.

It states: "This would replace the use of fossil fuels by using wood and we would minimise the carbon footprint for transportation by selling it locally."

Four full-time equivalent jobs would be created if the application got the go-ahead.

No new buildings would be needed but the farm plans to install a wood-dryer heated by wood fuel. A decision will be made by the council's planning committee.
