Family's shock after post office worker is jailed for £58,000 fraud
THE family of a post office worker have spoken of their shock after he was jailed for fraudulently making payments of £58,500 to his own account.
David Eggleston made three payments into his personal National Savings account by using a stamp from a former post office to verify deposits.
The 27-year-old from Hawksley Road, Clifton, also created two forged wills – including one in his great uncle's name.
Eggleston, who worked at Keyworth post office at the time of the offences, was yesterday jailed for 15 months.
The post office is run by his father and mother Roy and Margaret.
Speaking after the Nottingham Crown Court hearing, Roy, 64, said: "We knew nothing about it. We are absolutely gobsmacked about the whole thing. It all happened over six months and it seems like something had just clicked in him."
Eggleston admitted five charges of fraud, three of forgery and one of perverting the course of justice between September 2008 and February 2009.
Sentencing Eggleston, Judge Dudley Bennett said he was a "thoroughly dishonest man".
He said: "You used your knowledge of how the post office works to acquire the stamp and tried to gain from it. It was sheer dishonesty."

“Why don't Bill and the Earl stop bickering in every damn thread... or get a room together?!
I'm not interested if this man was good to his mother, drove his kids to school, or climbed a mounan for charity... he is a thief, a cheat and a liar.
This isn't a "lapse of judgement" this is bare-faced cheating the system from the inside, and each time someone does it the rest of us question why we should trust anyone.
Shame on you David Egglestone!”

“Earl read my original comment again. No suggestion of criminal behaviour only that it must be great to be perfect and thus entitle you to "throw stones". The use of an Earls title might be construed as vanity, which is not criminal but one of the seven deadly sins. All I accused you and Mel of was regarding yourselves as perfect when,as you freely admitted, you were not.”

“That's right Bill. Does your good book also guide you to suggest that others indulge in criminal behaviour to support an argument?”

“Dear Earl as you raise the question of Christian behaviour the teaching is " Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" It makes no mention of level of sin but is really pointing out that none of us are perfect. It also teaches forgiveness.”

“"Just listen to all the windows in the glass houses breaking ! Must be nice to be perfect Mel and Earl.

Sorry to disagree with you Bill but sadly I am not perfect. On the other hand, neither have I fabricated 2 wills, been sentenced to 15 months in jail for nine charges including the further 12 counts of fraud.
I don't think this awful behaviour is acceptable and I certainly don't think your apologist comments are strengthened by inferring the dishonesty of others. That's not really very Christian is it Bill?”

“I totally agree. I count him as one of my closest friends, he is a well loved and popular man who suffered a lapse of judgement. I hope some of the people on here don't suffer misfortune in their lives, given the lack of compassion they seem to have shown so far.”

“*Laughing at the mug*
He was far from a loner and had plenty of friends. He knows he has done wrong and we will still be here for him when he comes out!!!!!!
Lets stop the mud slinging and let the family get on with things.”
