Family days out: Thoresby Country Fair
S PRING is on its way (well, allegedly) and it's time for the first major outdoor country show of the season in Notts at lovely Thoresby Park. This Saturday and Sunday, the venue will be transformed into a playground for those who love the great outdoors as Thoresby Country Fair gets under way.
Organised by Living Heritage Shows, the event promises fun family entertainment in three main arenas – with lots of country sports and pursuits performed by some of the biggest countryside associations in the UK.
Making an appearance in the Andy Singleton arena will be the fast and furious Scurry Driving Championship team event, a quick moving collection of perky ponies who'll be racing around the track in an explosive exhibition of traditional skills.
Teams will compete against each other in a bid to get into the Living Heritage finals, taking place at the end of the season, in a fiercely fought tournament.

There will also be thrilling displays of gun dogs, sheep dogs, fishing, ferret racing, lurchers, terriers and other popular country animals.
The Falconry Village will feature a brilliant array of native and exotic birds of prey, with the return of the highly popular owl show.
Majestic displays of flying will take place throughout the course of the show and there will even be free "have a go" sessions for kids who want to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures.
Talking of youngsters, there will be plenty for children to do this year with special entertainment and activities designed to encourage an interest in country life.
Choose from puppet shows, water balls, bouncy castles and sessions on everything from how to handle a gun dog to how to fish or fly a hawk.
And don't forget, when all this frenetic fun and activity gets too much, you can take some time out to browse scores of interesting stalls which will provide a fun alternative to the usual weekend trek around the shops.
There will also be a craft village and regular demonstrations in the food area – be sure to sample some of the tasty delights being offered in the food courts.
Thoresby Country Fair will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Admission is £9 for adults and £4 for children.
The park is signposted off the A614 at Ollerton – or pop the postcode NG22 9EH into your satnav.
